Earl Lewis Roads, age 89, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield.  He was born on February 5, 1932 in Pittsfield, IL to Homer and Leona Norton Roads.

Earl graduated from Pittsfield High School and later went onto join the United States Army, serving in Germany.  After his honorable discharge, he returned back home to work on the family farm.  After selling the farm, he worked for Stark Bro’s for many years before working at County Market in the deli where he was known for his fried chicken.  Earl eventually retired.  In earlier years, he enjoyed horses, fishing, and hunting.  He loved plants and brought many home from his years at Stark Bro’s, and he liked reading and watching Westerns.  Earl was very active in the American Legion Post #152, serving as past Commander for numerous years and loved attending Bingo.  He was hardworking, ornery, and always had a smile on his face.  He will be remembered for his kind and caring nature.

He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Susan (Terry) Evans of Pittsfield, IL, Karen O’Connor of Oklahoma, Michelle (Gus Stewart) Moore of St. Charles, MO, Sandy (Basil) Plato of Jerseyville, IL, Connie Norton of Virden, IL, Stacie (Skip) Roads-Sommer of New York, Mike (Amy) Roads of Bends, OR, Danielle (Mike) Brayman of Ft. Benning, GA, Jeremiah Roads of Waynesville, MO, and Alice Potaki of Chicago, IL; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Leona Roads; siblings, Maxine Potaki, Anna Mae Norton, Homer Leon Roads, David Roads, and Helen Moore; and three nephews, Roger Norton, Clifford Norton, and Gene Norton.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home.  Cremation rites have been accorded.  Memorials are suggested to be made to Blessing Hospice or Pittsfield American Legion Post #152.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

I so loved taking care of Uncle Earl. You never knew what he would say. Susan, as you know, I called him my little Jay Bird. Gonna miss his humor. Prayers for FAMILY and Friends.
