Keela (Shinn) Dark

Keela Dark, age 60, of Baylis, IL passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and children Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She was born April 16, 1963, in Carthage, IL to Paul Shinn and Meron Brown Shinn. Keela married Donnie Dark June 23, 2006, in Baylis, IL and he survives.

Keela was a 1981 graduate of Pittsfield High School. She worked at Tee Pee Mini Mart as a cashier and was a custodian at Pikeland Unit #10. Keela enjoyed crocheting and watching dirt track racing. She was a loving, gentle and kind woman who took great delight in spending time with her family. She especially relished having dinner with her kids and grandkids and celebrating the holidays, particularly Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Keela is survived by her husband, Donnie Dark; children, Brad (Chloe) Franklin, Jennifer (James) Sheppard, Katie (Justin Kindle) Franklin and Levi (Katie Johnson) Dark; grandchildren, Cheyenne, Hayden, Audrey, Abigail, Brady, Ulton, Wyatt, Koltyn, Jason and Janice; brothers, Klifford (Sue) Shinn and Rex ‘Shorty’ Harpole; sisters, Karen (Tommy) Toon and Kim Coultas; half-brother, Fred Shinn; half-sister, Darla Shinn; stepdad, Rex Harpole; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Kenny Shinn, Kevin Shinn, Karla Shinn and Timmy Harpole.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 12, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with interment to follow at Baylis Cemetery in Baylis, IL. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to be made to PCS Music Department or Pikeland Snack Pack.
