A. Dale Stone

Albert Dale Stone, age 73, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at St.  John’s Hospital in Springfield, IL surrounded by his family. He was born August 8, 1950, in Pittsfield, IL to Nellie Irene Stone. Dale married Joyce Raftery February 19, 1977, in Barry, IL and she survives.

Dale grew up in Nebo and attended Pittsfield High School. He went to work at Kamar Buildings, then to Brown Shoe Factory until they closed and then helped them open other factories in Michigan. Dale went to work at Lorraine Cheese and later worked at Excel, retiring in 2013. He enjoyed watching John Wayne movies, Bonanza and Gunsmoke. Dale was an avid reader, enjoyed going to yard sales and trinket stores and spending time fishing. Dale was a family man who took great delight in spending time with his grandchildren and daughter, Paula. He spent countless hours attending all of their activities and enjoyed talking to Hannah every day and took Levi to his hunter safety course. He was a soft-spoken, kind and big-hearted man who was caring and selfless. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dale is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Joyce Stone; daughter, Paula (Chris Beck) Stone of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Levi (Delaynie Robinson) Borrowman, Hannah Whitley, Chloe (Brenden Blake) Stone, Kayden Gallagher and Owen Gallagher; uncle, John Stone; in-laws, Gene Raftery and Margaret Raftery; and several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nellie Stone; uncle, Charles Stone; and brother-in-law, John Raftery.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 29, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation to be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Calvary Cemetery in Pittsfield. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.
