Russell Verlin Miller, age 89, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Thursday, February 4, 2021 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born March 21, 1931 in Winchester, IL to Raymond and Catherine Cummings Miller. He married Cecelia Terrazas on October 7, 1951 and she survives.

Russell graduated from Higbee High School and then joined the United States Air Force serving from 1951-1955. Russell was stationed in Albuquerque and Roswell and then returned to Pittsfield working at Dainty Dress Dry Cleaners. In 1957 he moved to Houston, TX and worked as an electrician for 18 years before returning to Pittsfield where he worked as a self-employed electrician with his brother, Richard.  He then went to work at Pittsfield High School for nearly 15 years until his retirement.  He was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pittsfield and a past member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 and Emergency Corps in New Canton.  Russell had a big vegetable and flower garden every year and was well known for his salsa and Hawaiian banana nut bread.  He loved barbequing and mushroom hunting, and was often the cook at his son-in-law’s hunting cabin.  Russell adored his wife and she was the twinkle of his eye.  He and Cecelia had a great love for animals.  Russell was ornery and stubborn but also loving and caring.  He was a hard worker and loved his daily routine.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Cecelia Miller; two sons, Larry (Rachael) Miller of Houston, TX and Russell V. Miller, Jr. of Springfield, IL; four daughters, Carla Nipper, Kathy Helm, Susan (Donny) Bradburn, and Becky (Danny) Lee, all of Pittsfield, IL; twelve grandchildren, Cissy (Joseph) Stiles, Lawrence (Lisa) Miller, Cole (Casey) Bradburn, Jessica (Matthew) Donnenwirth, Jeremiah (Kim) Johnson, Levi (Madison) Bradburn, Kahla Stevenson, Adam (Narelle) Lee, Korie (Adam) Whitford, Katie (Stephen) Johnson, Jared (Carrie) Lee, and Kimee (Jack Danger) Miller; special daughter, Andrea Hess; fifteen great grandchildren with one on the way; one great great grandchild; brother, Richard (Betty) Miller of Pittsfield, IL; and several nephews and a niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Janet Rutledge; and two sons-in-law, Vernon Nipper and Jim Helm.
