John Robert Kearns 91, of Pearl, Illinois passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2020 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, Illinois.  Johnny was born on January 23, 1928 in Jacksonville, Illinois to Fred D. and Hester Mae Christison Kearns.  Johnny married Donna Rae Wheeler on August 16, 1952 in Pocahontas, Arkansas.  Donna preceded him in death on September 23, 2016.

Johnny was in the Airforce, serving our country in between WW II and the Korean War.  In his early years he worked for Crawford Lumber and was a skilled cabinet maker.  He then came to Pike County to join his wife’s family at the Wheeler Farms in Pearl, Illinois.  This is where he and Donna lived the rest of their life.  He eventually retired from farming but in his mind he never fully retired, always helping where he could.  Johnny loved to work with wood.  He and Donna would take trips and he would eyeball a new project to make, so he would buy one, take it back home, then proceed to copy it and make one for everyone in the family.  Everyone in his family has at least one thing that Johnny made.  He also enjoyed bowling and in his earlier years he was on a bowling team in Pittsfield.  Johnny and Donna loved to travel the United States taking the family so they could experience the world.
Johnny was a jokester and loved to pull pranks on others, he always got a good laugh.  He taught his children and grandchildren manners especially removing a hat when you sit down at the dinner table.
Johnny treasured his companion “Spot”.  Johnny loved his other pets over the years but “ Spot” was special. The other love in his life were all the babies, he was a baby whisperer, rocking them for hours always getting them to sleep. Johnny was The Best Grandpa, if awards were given his would have won.

Johnny is survived by one son, Ben (Cheryl) Kearns of Pearl Illinois: two daughter, Teresa (Stephen) Lovegreen Palmyra Mo. and Nancy (Larry) Ward of Milton, Florida: seven grandchildren, Amber (Richard) Anderson, Alesha (Jason) Jernigan, Adam (Jenny) Lovegreen, Lacey (Jelani) Matthews, Alex (Brittany) Ward, Nicole Lovegreen, Lance ( Kayla) Kearns,  and 17 great-grandchildren; one sister Diana Hipkins, Jacksonville, Illinois, brother and sister-in-law Dean and Sherry Wheeler Ottwell, Pearl, Illinois; also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Donna , one brother, Gary and five sisters, Virginia, Isabel, Rosemary and Twins Peggy Ann and Jo Ann.

I am so sorry to hear of Uncle Bud's passing. I have fond memories of visiting the farm as a child and the family reunions in Milton. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
