Kenneth P. Bonnett, age 96, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2019 at his home.  He was born on October 20, 1922 in Griggsville, IL to William and Pearl Goldman Bonnett.  He married Marylyn Shaw Doyle on July 1, 1996 in Leesville, LA and she survives.

Kenneth graduated from Pittsfield High School and went on to join the Army Air Corps (United States Air Force) and served with the 317th Troop Carrier Group in Japan during World War II. After his honorable discharge from the US Air Force, he started Bonnett Trucking in 1947.  He worked alongside his son, George, teaching him at a very early age to drive the trucks.  Kenneth retired and sold the trucking business in 1990 and continued to work for over ten years driving for Pittsfield Machine.  He was a member of the Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 and a past member of the Pittsfield Moose Lodge #420.  He loved gardening and rides with Marylyn.  He also enjoyed his morning coffee club.  In later years, he loved spending time with his great grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 23 years, Marylyn; step children, Rick (Carla) Doyle of Walla Walla, WA, Debra (Brad) Fay of Hartselle, AL, and Kevin Doyle of Nevada, MO; grandchildren, Becky Aiken of Springfield, IL, Brent Bonnett of Westchester, PA, Kent Bonnett of Mt. Sterling, IL, Gina (Randy) Harris of Springfield, IL, and Greg (Kim Speckhart) Bonnett of Pittsfield, IL; step grandchildren, Robert (Dana) Fay of VA, Shaun (Erica) Fay of LA, Mathew (Cherrie) Fay of AL, Richard Doyle of WI, Cara (Ben) Wright of KS, Shannon (Nate) Rensland of OR, Anne (D.J.) Cooper of KS, and Russell (Jennifer) Doyle of MO; several great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Brenda Bonnett of Pittsfield, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Juanita Smith Bonnett; son, George A. Bonnett in 1998; brothers, Raymond and Julius “Buck”; and sisters, Louise, Mary, Marjorie, and Elizabeth.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Wednesday from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.  Interment will be at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  Online condolences may be left to the family at  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

To the entire Bonnett family I am so very sorry to hear of Kenny’s passing. I roundly recall spending hours with him in a truck hauling pigs or cattle across Pike County.
