Owen Burdette Walker, age 87, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.  He was born on October 2, 1931 in Spring Creek Township to Gerald and Julia Smith Walker.  He married Connie Dorsey on June 23, 1951 in Pittsfield, and she preceded him in death on March 8, 2013.

In earlier years, Owen worked as a carpenter with “Choppy” Coultas and Bill Coultas. Later, he went into partnership at Bargain Barn with Earl Ingersoll and worked alongside Charlie Couch.  He started doing small engine repair in the back of Bargain Barn before moving to West Adams in 1985 and established Walker’s Small Engine Repair.  Owen was a beekeeper and sold honey that he made as well as rented out his bees to others.  He enjoyed good company and conversation.  Owen liked hunting, fishing, and gardening.  He and his wife went on many trips that the business allowed them to take to Hawaii, Acapulco, Germany, Virginia Beach, and many other places.  He was a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and the Beekeepers Organization.

He is survived by a son, Gary (Judy) Walker of Pittsfield, IL; two daughters, Brenda (David) Christianer and Janice (Gary) Cox, both of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Heather Thompson, Nathan Christianer, Emilee Cox, Ryan Cox; step grandchildren, Jeremy Shepherd, Nicole Bowen, and Tyler Shepherd; great grandchildren, Bentli Chrsitianer, Talon Thompson, Jaxon Thompson, Karmen Smith, Michelle Cox, Brogan Cox, Macee Jo Shepherd, Declan Bowen, Paislee Bowen, and William Hayes; brothers, Junior (Joann) Walker, John (Rosemary) Walker, Don (Janice) Walker, all of New Canton, IL; sister, Twila (Gene) Smith of New Canton, IL; half-sisters, Linda Coleman of Hannibal, IL and Dollie Sexton of New Canton, IL; brother-in-law, Jack Hively of Barry, IL; sister-in-law, Dixie Walker of New Canton, IL; and step mother, Mabel Kindle Walker of New Canton, IL.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Connie Walker; a great grandson, Bryar Christianer; brother, Lyle Walker; and sisters, Della (Gary) Minear and Minnie Maynard Hively.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Visitation will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  Memorials are suggested to Pittsfield West Cemetery or Pike County Animal Shelter.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

So sorry to hear of his passing know he will be lovingly remembered and many good memories will be passed down through family and friends and he is in Glory From Nephew Gerald and wife Tammy in LA Luz NM
