Joseph Steven Kurtz, age 68 of Barry, IL passed away at Cameron Regional Hospital in MO on Thursday, November 15, 2018. He was born November 28, 1949 in Monmouth, IL to Paul W. and Thelma E. Howell Kurtz. He married Jessie Gilbert –Iams on July 8, 2006 in Barry and she survives.

Steve attended school in Barry and for a time worked at Brown Shoe Factory in Pittsfield. In the late 60’s he began his trucking career with Q & H Trucking and drove a truck for the next 49 years. He drove most of those years as owner/operator of Kurtz Trucking and moved many loads to the majority of the U.S. He later leased to Combined Transport Company and delivered his last load to Nebraska the day before he passed away. Trucking was his passion; however he also enjoyed camping from time to time. He loved to spend time with his grandkids, watching Old Westerns and was a NASCAR fan.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie, three sons; Paul E. Kurtz (wife April Erke) of Kinderhook, IL, Cory D. Kurtz (wife Brooke) of Golden, IL and Shawn R. Iams ( Angel Wert) of Quincy, IL. Four daughters; Angela Hodge (husband Lonnie) of Kansas City, Mo, April Stolte (husband Justin) of Barry, Tessa Kurtz of Rockport and Jera Iams ( Kyle Bocke) of Quincy. A brother, Paul Kurtz (wife Deana) of Barry and sisters; Cindy Ledbetter, Kathy White-Haynes and Helen Brinkley all of MO. Nineteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, ,James Edward Kurtz and two sisters; Diannia Brinkley and Velma Waters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with Pastor Clint Weir officiating. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery following the service. Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 – 7:00 P.M. at the funeral chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Pike County Cancer Support Group. The Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements.

sorry to here of his passing , I knew some of the family, My first husband was Paul shade. used to see them in Barry. and Iwasnt sure if this was the one that had the creamy, used to go there and my husband Chuck worked on equipment for them. May God be with you and comfort you.
