Jack Lynn Borrowman, age 87, passed away on Wednesday, October 24, 2018.  Jack was born on January 30, 1931 in Pleasant Hill, IL and was a son of Virgil and Pauline Hall Borrowman.  Jack was married to Joyce Ann Martin on December 10, 1950.

Jack very suddenly left us while he was doing what he loved most in life, farming.  He worked hard to be able to buy his first farm in 1966, and he grew from there.  He loved raising cattle and worked every day up until the day he died.  Farming was everything to Jack, he always looked for ways to improve every aspect of his farming operations.  He was a progressive thinker and really liked new technology.  He encouraged his grandchildren that they could go anywhere and do anything, and that he had done more than he ever dreamed he could.  He was very curious, always asked questions and he wanted to always learn something new.  Jack was a very social person and enjoyed talking with people.  Jack and Joyce loved to travel with their dear friends, Bill and Gloria Northcutt.  Jack’s favorite lesson in life was when his grandad asked him if he was going to buy cattle.  He responded to his grandfather that he was afraid that cattle were too high and that he would go broke.  His grandfather replied, “it’s better to go broke than to stay broke.”  Jack lived life according to that philosophy.

Jack is survived by his sons, Gary (Lola) Borrowman of Kinderhook, IL, John (Sandy) Borrowman of Barry, IL, Fred (Diane) Borrowman of Darien, IL, daughters, Jane Borrowman of Hannibal, MO, and Tina Pirtle of La Grange Park, IL; grandchildren: Carl (Brooke) Borrowman and their two children of Barry, IL, Catie (Nathan) Reed and their three children of Barry, IL, Loren (Britni) Borrowman and daughter also of Barry, IL, Margaret Borrowman of Kinderhook, IL, Matthew (Jennifer) Borrowman and their two children of Oswego, IL, Julie Borrowman of Bolingbrook, IL, Rodney (Jessica) Borrowman of Springfield, IL, Jeffrey Pirtle of Chicago, IL, John Pirtle of La Grange Park, IL, Kali (Mike) Swift of Brooklyn, NY, and Kelsey Borrowman of Philadelphia, PA.  Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, a daughter, Jean Ann; his parents, Virgil and Pauline Hall Borrowman; and his brothers Lloyd, Gerald and James Borrowman.

Private funeral services will be held at Crescent Heights Cemetery on Saturday, October 27, 2018.  A Celebration of Life will be held at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. also on Saturday, October 27.  Memorials are suggested to Crescent Heights Cemetery or Hull/Kinderhook First Responders.  Niebur Funeral Chapel is handling the arrangements.

I am so sad to hear about the passing of Jack. I knew Jack as one of my dad's best friends- a lifelong friend, a true friend, the kind that are rare. The last time I saw him he talked to me about wanting to live to be 100 like my grandmother. What inspired me about him is his endless enthusiasm in farming. He woke up every day looking forward to a new challenge. Conversations with him were never boring. Men like Jack are very rare in this world. He will be missed. Our thoughts are with all of you, Mat, Sally and MK
