Beverley Anne Thomas, 80, formerly of Pittsfield and Jacksonville, passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at her residence in Tucson, Arizona. She was born on May 16, 1937 in Toronto, Canada to Stanley and Margaret (Trout) Ionson.

Beverley and her family immigrated to the United States on October 31, 1949, landing in Pittsfield. Beverley graduated from the Illinois Masonic Hospital of Chicago in 1959 as a Registered Nurse. She had a long and successful career primarily focusing on elder care and hospice nursing. She was dedicated and caring to her patients, whether they were friends, family, or strangers and her goal was to be empathetic while delivering good quality care.  Beverley retired in July of 2016. She belonged to many professional organizations locally and advocated for elder rights through state and federal politicians. She was also an avid volunteer for many local organizations. She was a fun and enthusiastic Girl Scout Leader for her daughter's troop. She was of service to the Woodhaven Volunteer Hospice located in Jacksonville. Beverley was also recognized for her service to the School District 117 for volunteering in her Niece, Jennifer Stendback’s, classroom. Most recently she was a dedicated volunteer at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield. Beverley greatly enjoyed playing and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a very outspoken and an independent woman who loved anything sweet. Beverley will be greatly missed by her family. Those who remember Beverley will recognize her ability to make friends anywhere she went and her love of adventurous travel.

She is survived by a son, Kurt (Donna) Baumann; a daughter, Jill (Ron Islas) Baumann; and three grandchildren, Morgan Baumann, Grayson Baumann, and Joaquin Islas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Bill Baumann, husband Bob Thomas, and two brothers, John and Gordon Ionson.

We are so sorry for your loss. Beverly was so special and we really looked forward to her coming to Arizona to visit her daughter. She was great fun to be around and we have some wonderful memories of her when she joined our lunch group of some old high school friends of mine here in Tucson. Please remember that others care very much and wish you strength and comfort at this sad time. You are in our thoughts and prayers. Sending our love from Tucson.
