Charles Lyndle Johnson, fondly known to family and friends as "C.L.", age 91 of Pittsfield passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 at Liberty Village in Pittsfield. C.L. was born on March 15, 1926 in Nebo, a son of L. Hayward and Iva Goltz Johnson.  He married Imogene Smith on September 28, 1943 in St. Louis, MO; she preceded him in death on June 23, 1997.

C.L. was a veteran of the United States Navy serving during WWII.  After his discharge from the Navy, C.L. worked in a target factory in Alton for a time.  He later started farming in Pike and Calhoun Counties and farmed until his retirement.

In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting with Uncle Charlie. After his retirement he liked to play golf, dominoes, and go fishing with his fishing partner Jeff Bolton.  C.L. especially enjoyed going camping with Marie.  He was a member of the Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill, Pittsfield American Legion Post #152 and Pike County Farm Bureau.  

C.L. dearly loved his family and friends and will be truly missed.

Surviving are two sons, Dale Johnson of Pittsfield and James (Susan) Johnson of New Salem; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren;  his companion of seventeen years, Verna "Marie" Carroll and her children, Sammy (Carolyn) Carroll, Larry (Shelley) Carroll, Lisa (Owen) Brown, and Chris Wood; Marie's sixteen grandchildren and thirty-seven great grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Johnson of Colorado.

C.L.  was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a daughter, Linda Crowder; a son, Wayne Johnson; grandson, Curtis Dale Johnson; granddaughter, Angie Crowder; brother LaVon Johnson; and two sisters, Oneta McBride and Otelia Burke.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Pastor Brent Joy and Pastor Don Hannel officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m.  Interment will be in the Pittsfield West Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to be made to the Baptist Church of Pleasant Hill or the Pittsfield Calvary Baptist Church.  Condolences may be sent to the family at  The Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield has been entrusted with the service.
