Lela Mae Morris, age 90, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020 at Griggsville Estates in Griggsville, IL.  She was born on December 2, 1929 in Pittsfield, IL to Merle and Marguerite Belford Capps.  She married Bill Morris on March 20, 1976 at Central Christian Church in Jacksonville, and he preceded her in death July 14, 2017.

Lela graduated from Pittsfield High School and then began working at Spurgeons. After marrying Bill, they relocated to South Jacksonville and she worked as a Secretary for the Morgan County Treasurer’s office, retiring in the early 1990s.  She and Bill moved closer to their daughter in Wee Ma Tuk, IL for several years before returning back to Pittsfield in 2001.  In earlier years, Lela attended Pittsfield Congregational Church and was a member of the Interested Mothers Club.  She and Bill belonged to dance clubs, and she participated in a bowling league.  She was also her daughter’s Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by her children, Robert (Joanne) Lacy of Pittsfield, IL and Ann (Bob) Ackerman of Canton, IL; stepchildren, Greg Morris of Chapin, IL and Barbara Stock of Wood River, IL; ten grandchildren, Kristin (Joe) Kohlrus, David Michael (Kelly) Lacy, Ellen Shoedel, Elizabeth (Justin) Siders, Jim Miley, Craig (Rachel) Lacy, David (Sara) Leavell, Carlo (Betsy) Bruno, Michael (Lexie) Lacy, and Judd (Carly Kirven) McCullum; fifteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; brothers, Robert Capps and Harold Capps, both of Pittsfield, IL; and sisters, Donna (Wendall) Hall of Pittsfield, IL and Pat Marksbury of Moline, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Merle and Marguerite Capps; husband, Bill Morris; son, David Lacy; stepson, Charlie Morris; brother, Glenn Capps; brother-in-law, Bill Marksbury; and sisters-in-law, Ermadel Capps and Mary Catherine Capps.

A private graveside service will be held at Pittsfield West Cemetery and cremation rites have been accorded. Memorials are suggested to be made to Griggsville Estates.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the services.
