Michael John Peters, age 73, of Pearl, IL, formerly of Oak Lawn, IL passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 at Timber Point Healthcare in Camp Point, IL.  He was born on November 26, 1945 in Livermore, CA to David and Betty Bramhall Peters.  He married Carol Zick on October 28, 1967 and she survives.

Michael grew up in Oak Lawn, IL where he met his wife, Carol at a YMCA dance in 1960.  He won her over by saying “I don’t bite” after asking her to dance.  He went on to join the United States Army, serving in Vietnam from 1965 to 1967.  After his Honorable Discharge from the US Army, he returned to marry Carol and they began their family.  Michael went on to work as an Operating Engineer for Local 150, where he worked for over 40 years before his retirement.  He also worked part time as a security guard in Chicago for many years.  He was a member of the Oak Lawn Bow Hunters Club, as well as a motorcycle club and was a lifetime member of the NRA.  Michael enjoyed all things involving law, once aspiring to be a police officer, and had mastered many kinds of martial arts throughout his life.  He liked spending time outdoors and deer hunting, as well as shooting his gun in competitions winning many awards.  Michael loved spending time with his family and anyone that had known him knew he spoke fluent sarcasm and was always making people laugh.

He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Carol; two children, Michael (Lynn) Peters of Grand Prairie, TX and Wendy Smith of Pittsfield, IL; seven grandchildren, Sammy (Shannon) Smith, Dakota Smith, Haley Smith, Mandy (Kyle) Wuistinger, Kiera (Kevin) Ramirez, Cory Peters, and Trenton Peters; a brother, David (Patty) Peters, Jr. of Arizona; and three sisters, Nikki (Larry) Merrick of Oak Park, IL, Dru Johnson of Lyons, IL, and Bunny (Steve) Schubert of Oak Park, IL.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 8, 2019 at 7:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL.  Visitation will be held prior to the service on Thursday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Pike County Honor Flight or Pike County All Wars Museum.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
