Cody Gene Chaplin, age 44, of Pittsfield, IL passed away on Monday, July 8, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on December 17, 1974 in Granger, Utah to Randy and Beulah Lang Chaplin.  He married Dorothy Taylor on April 19, 2002, and she survives.

Cody graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1993, where he participated in football and track.  He went on to attend Spoon River College, graduating in 1995 with a degree in Diesel Mechanics then worked for various places as a Diesel Mechanic.   In recent years, he coached youth league football for Pittsfield.  Cody enjoyed going deer and turkey hunting, and fishing.  He also loved riding 4-wheelers often travelling to Utah to ride the sand dunes.  Cody was baptized at The Crossing in Pittsfield.  He was a jokester, and always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need of help.  Cody was a loving and devoted husband, father, and friend, and remained tough and strong willed through his sickness, staying active with his children.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dorothy; three children, Levi Chaplin, Madison Chaplin, and Larry Chaplin; his parents, Randy and Beulah Chaplin of rural Griggsville; three sisters, Cheyenne Chaplin of Taos, NM, Angela Wooden of Joplin, MO, and April Chew of Joplin, MO; maternal grandmother, Thora Lang Johnson of Utah; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rick and Judy Taylor of Lecanto, FL.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Veral Lang and Robert Johnson; and his grandparents, Andy and Mary Lou Chaplin.

A visitation will be held on  July 11, 2019 from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with private interment at a later date.  Memorials are suggested to an educational fund for his children.  Online condolences may be left to the family at  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

To our daughter Dorothy, our grandchildren, Cody's parents, his entire family, our children and grandchildren and everyone who knew Cody. Our hearts break for each one of you. To know Cody was a gift from God. He was a true trooper in his fight against his illness. The Only Peace we can have is he is no longer suffering. He will be so Very Deeply missed!
