Jean M. Harshman, 88, of Kinderhook, IL passed away December 14, 2017 at the Barry Community Care Center in Barry. She was born February 13, 1929 in Rockville, IN to Floyd Vincent and Margaret Louise (Moneymaker) Martin.

Jean moved to Pleasant Hill, IL with her parents, where she met and married C.L. “Sonny” Harshman.  Together, they had and raised six children and worked on the farm at Rockport for 30 years.  Jean also worked for many years as a volunteer EMT at Pleasant Hill during this time.  She later attended John Wood Community College in Quincy where she earned her LPN license and then worked at the Pike County Memorial Hospital in Louisiana, MO for 25 years before retiring from nursing.  After retirement, Jean continued to work at various different jobs in the area for several more years.  Jean was a longtime member of the New Hartford Christian Church, where she was active as a Song leader, Youth Group leader and the vacation Bible school program.  Jean enjoyed reading, music, word search puzzles and watching her birds.  She also enjoyed her children and grandchildren and loved to travel with her sister, Joyce.

Jean is survived by two sons; David (Millie) Harshman of Fripp Island, SC and Cam (Andrew) Harshman of Spanish Lake,  MO, three daughters;  Cary (Dan) Dunham of New Canton, IL, Sara (Bruce) Carter of South Jacksonville, IL and Robin Harshman of O’Fallon, MO. Nine grandchildren; Amanda Picone, John Picone, Edward Picone, Brendan Picone, Aaron Barger, Michael Carter, Cara Gwaltney, Ryan Harshman and Erik Harshman. Also surviving are four great grandchildren; Sonny Picone, Wesley Picone, Lia Picone and Johnny Picone and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, John Harshman and a sister, Joyce Borrowman.

As per her request, no funeral service is planned and cremation rites will be accorded.  Memorials are suggested to the Donor’s choice.  Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements
