George R. "Bob" Foster, 83, of Pittsfield, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Barry Community Center.  Bob was born on May 8, 1934 in Pittsfield to William R. and Eva L. Peer Foster.  He married Melba Williams Foster on October 17, 1953 in Pittsfield.  

Bob graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1952.  After marrying Melba, he worked as a farm hand. They moved to Quincy where Bob began working for Gates Radio, later known as Harris Corporation, for almost 18 years.  In 1975, they bought their family farm where he worked until his health would not allow him to anymore.  After he began renting his farm land, Bob worked for FS in Kinderhook for several years.  Bob loved to woodwork making many clocks and lamps, and remodeling his home.  He enjoyed his farming and gardening.  He also liked to travel, especially loved to go fly fishing in Colorado.  Bob was of the Christian faith and a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Melba; sons, James R. (Carol) Foster of Pittsfield and Jon R. (Nancy) Foster of West Melbourne, FL; two daughters, Christina A. Butler of Boynton Beach, FL and Irma Suzette Dark of Quincy; nine grandchildren, Chandra Foster, Joshua (Misako) Foster, Jeremy Foster, Brianne Foster, Wade Foster, Jared Butler, Devon Butler, Joel (Sandra) Peters, and Heather (Damion) Dodd; and eight great grandchildren, Kaito Foster, Kenji Foster, Sophie Hamilton, Sandy Peters, Joel Peters Jr., Carson Dodd, Caleigh Dodd, and Ava Dodd; and a sister, Ruth Ann (Bill) Skirvin of Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William F. Foster; and a sister in infancy, Mary Lois.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 2, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with Michael TenEyck and David Hamilton officiating.  Interment is at the Episcopal Cemetery.  There will be a visitation from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, December 1, 2017 at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to the Episcopal Cemetery or to the American Parkinson Disease Association.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Thinking of you and your family this morning and remembering Bob. He was so thankful to you Melba for the wonderful care you gave him. He was so proud of his family and he especially loved the grandkids. His face would light up telling stories of the kids. Love to you all.
