William 'Mike' Michael Slayden

William 'Mike' Michael Slayden, age 67, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO. He was born April 30, 1959, in Paducah, KY to William ‘Bill’ Robert and Dorothy M. Thompson Slayden. Mike married Lori Shaw July 28, 1990, at Pittsfield United Methodist Church and she survives.

Mike was a member of Pittsfield United Methodist Church since his childhood and was a 1977 graduate of Pittsfield High School. After graduation he began working in the family business with his dad at Modern Auto Parts and continued until his retirement in 2026. Mike was an avid fisherman who could often be found fishing at Pittsfield City Lake and at area farmers ponds. He enjoyed deer and turkey hunting with family and later did some duck hunting, cherishing the camaraderie and mutual friendship found on hunting trips. Mike was a tinkering kind of guy who also liked spending time with his tomato plants each year and in his down time, he liked watching old westerns, John Wayne movies and Andy Griffith. He was a devoted father who was truly proud of the wonderful individuals his children had grown into and dearly loved his grandson. Mike was appreciative of everything he had, but he was most thankful for his family and their family vacations, especially a special trip to Disney in May.

Mike is survived by his mother, Dorothy Slayden of Pittsfield, IL; loving wife of 36 years, Lori Slayden of Pittsfield, IL; son, William Slayden of Pittsfield, IL; daughter, Michelle (Nicholas) Hirth of Lebanon, TN; grandson, Arthur William Hirth; brother, Rob (Kate) Slayden of Martinsburg, WV; sister, Jeanie (Ted) Hartman of Baylis, IL; several aunts and uncles; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Elbert and Pauline Thompson and Walter and Roberta Slayden; father, William ‘Bill’ Slayden; in-laws, Glen and Betty Shaw; and great niece, Averie Rhoades.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Pittsfield West Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to West Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
