William Eugene Henderson, age 78, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Sunday, July 21, 2024, at his home. He was born April 2, 1946, in Jacksonville, IL to Conley and Dolores Lenzner Henderson. Bill married Linda Goldman June 26, 1971, in Pittsfield, IL and she survives.
Bill was a 1964 graduate of Pittsfield High School and went on to attend Western Illinois University where he played football. He was a United States Army veteran stationed in Germany from 1967 to 1969. In his earlier years, he was a 4H member and showed cattle at local fairs and carried this proud tradition on to his sons and grandchildren who showed both cattle and hogs. Bill spent several years working at Panhandle Eastern as a maintenance technician before focusing his efforts on the family farm beginning in 1978. He always loved the outdoors, was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and taking his beagles on rabbit runs. Bill enjoyed golfing, watching college football and the NFL. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, American Legion Post #152 and Pike County Farm Bureau. Bill was a hard-working and witty family man who will be dearly missed by all.
Bill is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda Henderson of Pittsfield, IL; sons, Chad (Margaret ‘Maggie’ Marr) Henderson of Encino, CA and Mark (Lindsy) Henderson of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Hayden Henderson, Grace Henderson, Riley Henderson, Conley Henderson and Chase Henderson; brother, Tom (Nancy) Henderson; sister, Barbara Ann Haskins; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Conley and Dolores Henderson; sister, Mary Beth Henderson; and brother-in-law, Jerry Haskins.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, July 26, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Bethel Cemetery in Detroit, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Bethel Cemetery or Saukee Nation.
