William 'Albert' McIntire Obituary

William 'Albert' McIntire, 81, of Pearl, died Friday, February 2, 2024, at his home. He was born May 17, 1942, at the family farm in rural Pearl to Harry and Margaret 'Helen' Lacey McIntire. He married Barbara Summers on April 13, 1963, in the Milton Christian Church, and she survives.

Mr. McIntire was a 1960 graduate of East Pike High School. Following high school Albert worked for Lacey & Bauer Rock Quarry and later was employed by GTE. After leaving GTE, Albert engaged full-time in farming, which was his true passion, and assisted Montezuma Township Road Commissioner Lavern Helm when needed. The fact that he worked on the family farm up until his recent illness is evidence of his strong work ethic. Albert cultivated that same work ethic in his kids and grandkids by making sure to share some of the farm work with his family – what he termed “building character”; however, he had a unique ability of making it seem more like fun than work. When not farming, Albert liked excavating with his bulldozer or fishing in a nearby pond or river. He will always be remembered for his good-heartedness and love of farm and family.

Albert is survived by his wife, Barbara; three daughters, Connie (Joe) Sabo of Pawnee, IL, Elizabeth 'E.J.' (Glenn) Bunzick of Deltona, FL, and Marilyn (Michael Butler) McIntire of Auburn, IL; one son, Philip (Beverly) McIntire of Taylorville, IL; three grandchildren, Paul “P.J.” Sabo IV (Kayti), Maggie Sabo (Erik Skaggs), and Dylan Bunzick; four great-grandchildren, Kloee, Valerie, Kyler, and Valen; one brother, Richard (Rebecca) McIntire; two sisters, Glenda McIntire and Elaine (John) Guthrie; one brother-in-law, Glenn (Jan) Summers; two sisters-in-law, Emily Verenski and Pam Summers; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Helen McIntire; one sister, Carol (surviving husband, Herschel) Carter; parents-in-law, George and Dorothy Summers; and brothers-in law, Dale Summers, Carl Summers, Warren Summers, David Summers, and Roger Summers.
