Wilbur L. Steininger, Jr.

Wilbur Steininger, Jr, age 80, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born November 1, 1944, in Carroll, IA to Wilbur L. and Evelyn Clapper Steininger. Wilbur married Shelia Willenburg June 10, 1963, in Bowling Green, MO and she survives.

Wilbur was a 1963 graduate of Pittsfield High School. Over the years, he worked for Pike County Lumber, Webel Feed Mill, and K.C. Barber Construction. Wilbur later went out on his own and built his own business, his hands touching many homes and government buildings in our community and he built the handicapped accessible ramp at the city lake. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting deer, rabbit, squirrel and pheasant and went on several bear hunts in Georgia. Wilbur was an outstanding cook who not only baked the best chocolate chip cookies but also fried the best fish and mushrooms and made great deer jerky. Wilbur was always a loving and kind man with a big heart even though he could occasionally be a little hardheaded.

Wilbur is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Shelia Steininger; brothers, Jim (Sharon) Steininger, Don (Linda) Steininger, and Kim (Edith) Steininger; sister, Lisa (Buddy) Brown; special friend and fishing buddy, Bill Cawthon; several nieces and nephews; and special extended family, Michael Shane (Lisa) Kunzman and David (Stephanie) Luedde.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilbur and Evelyn Steininger, Sr.

Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, December 30, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Oakwood Cemetery in Pittsfield.  Memorials are suggested to be made to Pittsfield Fire Department.
