Welma Jean ‘Jeannie’ Hunter, age 76 of Pittsfield, IL and formerly of Quincy, IL passed away Sunday, February 9, 2025, at Pittsfield Manor. She was born December 26, 1948, in Barry, IL to Bennie and Alene Eales Likes.
Jeannie was raised in Barry, IL and graduated from Barry High School. After high school, she obtained her CNA license. She worked at several facilities as a CNA and retired from the Illinois Veterans Home after 25 years of dedicated service. Jeannie loved music and dancing, especially old country tunes by Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton. She dearly loved traveling to visit and reminisce with her sisters about getting into mischief in their younger years. Jeannie was a true independent red head who was frank, feisty, and fiercely loyal to those near and dear to her. She had a great sense of humor and took great delight when extended family would come for a visit.
Jeannie is survived by sisters, Evelyn (Dennis) Workman, Helen (Jim) Dopheide, Sr., Karen Zanger, and Nancy (Jerry) Jones; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Alene Likes; son, Michael Shawn Hunter; sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn (Edwin) Ong; and nephews, Brent Ong and Travis Conkright.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, February 14, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL with private interment. Memorials are suggested to be made to Kingston Cemetery.
