W. Jody Wassell

Wilma Jo ‘Jody’ Wassell, age 71, of Pittsfield, IL passed away at her home Friday, May 19, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born May 24, 1951, to George and Pauline Deardeuff Schuster in Pittsfield, IL. Jody married Terry Wassell on February 20, 1970, in Pittsfield, IL and he survives.

Jody always worked with the public and was very well known for her infectious smile and willingness to help anyone. Jody was very passionate about her yard, flowers, and trees. Every sunny day, Jody could easily be found with her gardening gloves getting messy in her yard. Her flower gardens were gorgeous! Jody was a natural nurturing spirit, always providing home cooked meals and baked goods to her loved ones. Jody always took great joy in spending time outdoors with family and friends enjoying a good meal and visiting.

Jody is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Terry Wassell; children, Teija (Mike) Smithers and T.J. Wassell both of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Schae (Austin) Hill, Paige (Chandler) Sappington, Isaac Smithers, Eli Smithers, and Zaden Wassell; great-granddaughter, Ada Wilde Hill; sister-in-law with whom she shared a special bond more akin to sisters, Sherry Pease; nephews, Chase Pease, Chett Pease, and Coltyn (Hallie) Pease; her beloved puppy, Molly and the two big goofballs next door, Gunny and Baker who all adored her!

She was preceded in death by her parents, George (Jan) Schuster and Pauline (Roy) Stickhost; sister, Mary Brant; mother-in-law and father-in-law, LucyJane and Walter Wassell; and brother-in-law, Ralph Pease.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 22, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield.  Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the funeral home with interment to follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County Animal Shelter or Blessing Hospice.  Online condolences may left for the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
