Twylla J. (Wassell) Kriegel

Twylla June Kriegel, age 91, of Petersburg, IL and formerly of Pittsfield, IL passed away Monday, October 3, 2023, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born August 30, 1932, in New Hartford, IL to Gay and Coy Johnson Wassell. Twylla married Aaron Kriegel in 1989 in Louisiana, MO and he survives.

Twylla graduated from Pittsfield High School and attended Blessing-Rieman College of Nursing to earn her LPN degree. She owned and operated her own boarding home in Pittsfield and worked at area hospitals and nursing homes. Twylla was a faithful member of Pittsfield Church of the Nazarene. She dearly loved animals, especially dogs and cats and enjoyed her flowers. Twylla was a huge Elvis fan over the years. She took great delight in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and they will miss her dearly.

Twylla is survived by her husband, Aaron Kriegel; son, Tim (Brenda) Pryor of New Salem, IL; daughter, Patty (Mike Hutton) Fowler of Beverly, IL; stepson, Edwin Kriegel of Washington, D.C.; six grandchildren, Danny J. Pryor, Kiona (Jason) Wright, Ali (Larry Kendall) Baker, Sami Baker, Brian (Kelsey) Baker and Zach Baker; eleven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elsie Wassell and Elizabeth Wassell; and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gay and Coy Wassell; three brothers, Olin Wassell, Dwan Wassell, Marion Wassell; and sister, Wanna Heynen.

Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, October 9, 2023, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow the service at West Cemetery in Pittsfield, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Animal Shelter.
