Thomas Joshua Deitzman, age 49, of El Dara, IL passed away Monday, July 10, 2023, at his home. He was born October 30, 1973, in Pittsfield, IL to Thomas Jesse and Karen Kay Kesling Deitzman. Josh married Lisa McCallister and to this union two children were born.
Josh was a 1992 graduate of Barry High School. After graduation, he joined the United States Army serving two years and went on to serve in the Army National Guard until 1999. While enlisted, he was a quarter master and chemical / equipment repairman. Josh began his career with the railroad as a Signal Maintainer with Norfolk Southern Railroad and later worked for Canadian National Railroad for several years until injury forced him to retire. Josh was a member of the El Dara Christian Church. He was a talented woodworker and enjoyed whittling, making owl boxes and clocks. Josh loved spending time in his vegetable garden, enjoyed hunting and fishing. He dearly loved spending time outdoors, loved archeology, collecting arrowheads and was a member of the Archeology Society. Josh was fun to be around and had a contagious laugh and big smile.
Josh is survived by son, Jordan (Courtney) Deitzman of Barry, IL; daughter, Tera (Cody Thomas) Deitzman of Barry, IL; grandchildren, Liam Thomas, Brysenn Deitzman and Lydia Thomas; five sisters, Erika (Sean) White, Ingrid Deitzman, Ursula (Bruce) Jones, Tish Farmer and Melissa (Stephen) Henley; nieces and nephews, Ashley (Chance) Shoemyer, Levi Jones, Sierra Romanski, Morgan Romanski, Jerred Farmer, Cameron Farmer, Logan Farmer, Shayden Farmer and Lauren Elkins; and several aunts, uncles and cousins also survive.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, ‘WaWa’ Thomas Justice, ‘Mamoo’ Hazel J. Deitzman and Howard and Ethel Kesling; father, Thomas Jesse ‘Tom’ Deitzman; mother, Karen Kay Deitzman; sister, Nicole Deitzman; nephew, Jacob Dunham; and his beloved yellow lab, Casey.
Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry with visitation held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Taylor Martin Cemetery in New Canton. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Chapel.
