Steven M. Haskins

Steven M. Haskins, age 69, of Springfield, IL, formerly of Pittsfield, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Jacksonville Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.  He was born on May 30, 1953 in Pittsfield, IL to Nicholas and Katherine Claus Haskins.

Steve graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1971.   He attended trade school and became an electrician, and later owned and operated Central Electric in Pittsfield for many years. Steve also volunteered as an EMT with Pike County Ambulances for many years.  He was a lifelong member of Detroit Christian Church, and later attended Springfield Bible Church after moving to Springfield for health reasons. 

Steve loved food and always enjoyed a good meal with friends, sharing lots of laughter, & conversation!  He was always generous when it came to sharing and preparing food for any event. He loved music, attending gospel concerts, and especially enjoyed helping to organize Gospel Gig concerts for a number of years.  Steve was a talented pianist, loved to play hymns, and enjoyed entertaining people with his piano playing.  He had many loyal friends who stood by him throughout his years, and was especially grateful for his faithful caregiver, Esther, in his later years.

He is survived by his brother, Nick (Patricia) Haskins of Allendale, IL; sister, Sarah (Bill) Pattara of Homer Glen, IL; 4 nieces & nephews, 7 great nieces and nephews, and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Katherine Haskins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM at Detroit Christian Church.  Interment will follow at Pittsfield West Cemetery.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the church.  Memorials are suggested to be made to Mississippi Valley Christian Service Camp.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
