Steve D. Herron

Steve D. Herron, age 70 of Pleasant Hill, IL passed away Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born February 2, 1955, in Louisiana, MO to Carl Douglas and Wanda Webb Herron. Steve married Rhonda Rea Clendenny November 22, 1974, at the Pleasant Hill Christian Church and she preceded him in death May 25, 2013.

Steve was a graduate of Pittsfield High School Class of 1973. He began his career at Prairieland FS as a young man as an applicator, manager and drove a petroleum truck, retiring in December 2018. Steve also farmed throughout the years with Sonny Smith and Mike Webb and worked at the Feed Store in Nebo. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed golfing and duck hunting with his grandkids and friends and was well known for preparing the best duck breast. He loved spending time with his family attending his grandchildren’s activities and taking them out for supper. Steve was a nature lover who was a hardworking, selfless, caring man who could be a bit ornery and will be dearly missed by those close to him.

Steve is survived by sons, Jarrod (Kimberly) Herron of Benld, IL and Jordan Herron of Pleasant Hill, IL; daughter, Jenna (Bob) McElfresh of Pleasant Hill, IL; grandchildren, Jack Herron, Luke Herron, Samuel Herron, Eleanor Herron, Katie Benjamin, Lacey (Jaydon Heavner) Herron, Delaney Herron, Kaylee Niffen, Lilly McElfresh, Tanner (Cassi) McElfresh and Hailey (Colton) Clendenny; great grandchildren, Lakelynn, Sawyer, Gabby, Maxon and Haizlynn; brothers, Daryl (Carla) Herron and Randy (Debbie) Herron; sister, Cheryl (Larry) Conkright; mother-in-law, Jeannie (Allen) Clendenny; sister-in-law, Shelly (Chuck) Prater; and many nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Wanda Herron; wife of 38 years, Rhonda Herron; father-in-law, Robert ‘Bill’ Clendenny; and nephew, Travis Herron.

Funeral service will be held 1:00 PM, Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Crescent Heights Cemetery.
