Stacia Ann Paxton, age 83, of Springfield, IL, and formerly of Pittsfield, IL, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, September 29, 2024. Born on March 6, 1941, in Springfield, IL, she was the daughter of Riley Stacy and Evelyn Moore Woods. Stacia married Forrest Marvin Paxton on January 11, 1964, in Zanesville, OH. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2018.
Stacia graduated from high school in Zanesville, OH and later earned her bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from the University of Illinois. Devoted to her family, she spent her early years of marriage raising her children and being a housewife. As her children grew up and left home, she pursued a career as an Occupational Therapist in the Springfield area.
An avid quilter, Stacia shared her passion by gifting her beautiful creations to friends and family, donating to those in need, and teaching quilting classes. She even designed upholstered chairs, showcasing her creative flair. Beyond her quilting skills, Stacia was a source of strength and steadfast supporter to others, helping "stitch their lives together" during challenging times.
Stacia cherished her close-knit circle of friends and found joy in counting her children among her best friends. In the years after her husband passed, she deeply valued the companionship of her beloved goldendoodle, Benji. Known for her supportive and caring nature, along with a touch of firmness, she loved her family deeply and will be sorely missed.
Stacia is survived by her sons, Joel (Heather) Paxton of Valdosta, GA, and John (Christine) Paxton of Frisco, TX; daughter, Julie (Mike) Sullivan of New Berlin, IL; grandchildren, Brett Paxton, Paige (Kyle) Warning, Ian (Courtney) Paxton, Nolan Paxton, Tara Sullivan, Shea Sullivan, Kyle Paxton, and Riley Paxton; great-grandchildren, Eli Paxton and Tristen Paxton; sister-in-law, Pat Sprague; and nephews, Mark (Lisa) Sprague and Andy (Karen) Sprague.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Evelyn Woods; husband of 54 years, Marvin Paxton; and sister, Sara Jane.
In accordance with her wishes, cremation rites have been accorded, and all services will be held privately. Memorial contributions may be made to Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
