Shirley Williams Obituary

Shirley A. Williams, age 78, of Barry, IL passed away on Tuesday November 28, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family.  She was born on December 31, 1944 in Hull, IL to William and Myra Whitaker Hall.  Shirley married DeWayne Williams on July 15, 1967 at the Barry Baptist Church and he survives.

Shirley attended West Pike High School and during her senior year her mother passed away.  She took over taking care of her four year old sister Dorie, becoming her surrogate mother.  Shirley finished her senior year and graduated in 1963.  She met the love of her life DeWayne Williams, who was raising his young daughter Cindy, and they brought their families together and made one.  In 1971 after several years of trying, they were blessed with their daughter Tammy.

Shirley went straight into the workforce after graduating, working at the Uniform Laundry in Hannibal, MO and later working at Motorola for 10 years.  She then worked in the dietary department at the Barry Nursing Home for Jack Hubbard.  Shirley finished her career at the Hannibal Regional Hospital as a dietary clerk for 25 years retiring on December 12, 2012.

Shirley attended the Grace Baptist Church and was a member of the Barry American Legion Auxiliary.  Shirley loved her flower gardens, watching the birds and was a meticulous house keeper.  She loved her trips to Hobby Lobby, but especially loved the Ben Franklin Store in Monroe City, MO.  Shirley’s favorite pastime was her family, she loved spending time with them, and they knew her special pudding would always be waiting for them or a good game of Old Maid.  Her girls were her life but the grandkids were the icing on her cake.  She was most known for her warm, beautiful smile and her soft, gentle, loving nature.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, DeWayne Williams; two daughters, Cindy (Jeff) Fesler of Barry, IL and Tamara (Ronnie) Malone of Palmyra, MO; seven grandchildren, Andy (Justina) Fesler, Cameo Fesler, Tabitha (Joshua) Bennett, Luke (Erin) Fesler, Gage (Jenna) Brown,  Jordan (Ben) Mondon, and Chase (Haley) Brown; sixteen great-grandchildren, Conner, Bryce, Brookelyn, Carinn, Cara, Josie, Harper, Bexley, Elliott, Archer, Bronson, Linkin, Edyn, Elijah, Rae, and Brynlee; one brother Herman Hall; two sisters, Betty (Larry) Huddleston and Doris Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Dorothy Adams.
