Shelley D. (Barnes) LaRock

Shelley D. LaRock, age 53 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at her home in Pittsfield. She was born February 20, 1972, in Pittsfield, IL to William Thomas and Carol Jean Zumwalt Pruett. Carol later married Gary Barnes and he adopted Shelley when she was three. Shelley married Frederick LaRock November 24, 2024, and he preceded her in death.

Shelley was a 1990 graduate of Pittsfield High School.  She worked at Hardees and then went on to receive her CNA certificate.  She worked at Home Healthcare, Eastside Nursing Home and Liberty Village.  She later worked for County Market in the deli.  Shelley loved to cook and keep her house tidy.  She enjoyed playing the slot machines and scratch off lottery tickets.  She was a TEMU shopper and collected ceramic bears.  Shelley was a die-hard Chicago Bears fan and loved to take road trips and sing loudly. She could be guaranteed to speak her mind, but was funny, kindhearted and adventurous.  Shelley loved her family and especially time spent with her grandchildren. 

Shelley is survived by father, Gary ‘Hippy’ (Stephanie) Barnes of Quincy, IL; her children, Jeremy (Bailey) Coultas of Pittsfield, IL, Braden Barnes of Quincy, IL and Sierra Moore of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Alice, Brody, Adalynn, Braxton, Adrian, and Adler; siblings, Billy (Sherre) Pruett, Christina Lockhart, and Jackie Barnes; aunt, Darla Hobson; uncles, Rick Zumwalt and Randy Zumwalt; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive; and special friends, Timothy Swartz, JJ Bridgewater, Caroline Wells, and Marti Grammer.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; mother, Carol Zumwalt-Barnes; sister, Brandy Barnes; niece, Dakota Borenson; and aunts, Zona Zumwalt and Debbie Daniels.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and there will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to be made to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.
