Sharon J. (Wilcoxen) Marsden

Sharon Jean Marsden, age 85, of El Dara, IL passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Barry Healthcare and Senior Living in Barry, IL. She was born November 14, 1938, in Canton, IL to Carter L. and Geneva L. Oliver Wilcoxen. Sharon married Gary Lee Marsden August 8, 1968, in Springfield, MO and he survives.

Sharon earned multiple professional licenses and certifications over the years and worked as a real estate agent and real estate appraiser. She had a great love of animals and rehabbed many including cats, dogs and owls. Sharon gave of herself to missionary work, including a year in the mountains above La Paz Bolivia teaching English. She enjoyed fishing, writing short stories, watching Nascar, and enjoying the hummingbirds and sunflowers in her yard. Family and her grandchildren were very important to her, and she will be dearly missed by all.

Sharon is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Gary Marsden; daughter, Angela (Kenneth ‘Tary’) Hollerich of Jacksonville, FL; stepson, Paul Marsden of Mediapolis, IA; grandchildren, Kyle Garron Kitting, Daeric Gavin Kitting and Heath Matthew Hollerich; and several brothers and sisters-in-law and nieces and nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carter and Geneva Wilcoxen; and mother-in-law, Thelma L. Marsden.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a private service will be held at a later date. Memorials are suggested to be made to Pike County Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements.
