Sandra K. (Selvy) Smith

Sandra K. Smith, age 71, of Barry, IL passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at the Liberty Village in Pittsfield, IL.  She was born on June 29, 1952, in Quincy, IL to Robert and Darlene Loos Selvy.  Sandy married George R. Smith on October 24, 1975, in Quincy, IL and he survives.

Sandy grew up in the Quincy area and graduated from Quincy High School.  She started working as a dance teacher and eventually owned and operated her own studio for a few years.  She later went to work as a secretary at Chaddock and then worked at Farmers National Company until her retirement in 2019.  Sandy was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan and also loved to go shopping and hit the casinos.  Sandy loved family gatherings and special occasions, she always looked forward to receiving family and friends' photos taken at each event.  She was known to be a hard worker and an advocate and supporter for many area non-profit organizations.  Her biggest joy was her family, and she was the glue that held them together.  Sandy was a genuine and loving wife, mother, sister and friend.

Sandy is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, George; two daughters, Carrie (Christopher) Moore of Barry, IL and Jennie Smith of Collinsville, IL; sister, Karen (Daniel) Gerding of Plainville, IL; in-laws, Clara Kasten, Dora (Joe) Fesler, Kenneth (Debbie) Smith, and Joye Smith; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive along with her special blue heeler Bella. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother-in-law Marian and two brothers-in-law John ‘Bill’ and Richard Leroy Smith.

Services will be held on Wednesday, March 20, at 10:30AM at the Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL.  Interment will follow at the Shiloh Cemetery, rural Plainville, IL.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, from 4:00PM-6:00PM at the funeral home.   Memorials are suggested to be made to Tunnel to Towers or Homeward Bound.   Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.  Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL is handling the arrangements.
