Sandra Henry Obituary

Sandra Henry, age 85, of Pittsfield, IL passed away at her home with her children by her side, on Friday, June 21, 2024. Her life was lived with joy and grace. Her friendships ran deep. Always, she was a listening ear, a shoulder to lean into and her greatest gift was the generosity of her love. She was the best of moms – her legacy keeps giving.

Adversity was often at her doorstep, and she met it head on with faith and determination. Her beloved husband, Russ Henry and her son, Kent Andress, preceded her in death. By no coincidence, Kent’s birthday was June 21 – the day of her passing. What a gift to be welcomed at the gates and reunited.

Russ was the love of her life. They were married for 18 blessed years.  He, too, awaits her with open arms…as do many. No doubt an encore awaits with celebration and with Jesus and her Lord saying, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

As a children’s librarian for 23 years, she served – supporting parents, sharing books and shining light on imagination. She was beacon – and her guidance is infinite.

Her home was a popular place to congregate in her original hometown of Hampshire, IL – and that continued with her children and all of their friends.

Sandy was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church. She loved her swim buddies. She gave and received through her cancer support group. She simply loved people. And maybe dogs even more.

She enjoyed music. She acted in plays. She sang barbershop. Played piano and sax. Her harmony in song and spirit…are beautiful.

Known for her smile, her hugs, her clever remarks, her humility and her selflessness and the fact that she was Mom…we celebrate her.

Sandy was born on April 11, 1939, in Elgin, IL to Howard and Ethelmae Nothenaugal Dreymiller.  Sandy married Russell D. Henry on October 17, 1980, and he preceded her in death on September 9, 1998. She grew up in Hampshire, IL outside of Chicago.

She is survived by her son Scott (Anita) Andress and daughter, Kristin Andress; two grandchildren Bryce (Brittney) Frieden and Morgan (Tyler) McDonald; seven great grandchildren; and one sister Sherry Kuhn.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Russell; son Kent Andress and brother-in-law Paul Kuhn.
