Ruth Elizabeth Shue Obituary

Ruth Elizabeth Gay Shue, 94, of the Barry Community Care Center, and formerly of New Canton, IL, died May 17, 2011 at the Barry Community Care Center. She was born to Blossom Smith Gay and Henry Horton Gay on May 24, 1916 in Atlas Township in Pike County, IL. She married Clarence David Shue on December 23, 1937 in Quincy, IL, and he preceded her in death in February 1989.

Mrs. Shue is survived by her daughter, Connie (Les) Allen of Pittsfield, IL, a son, John (Janice) Shue of Barry, IL, grandchildren, Julie (Frazier) and Jerry O達rien, Fort Branch, IN., Susan (Frazier) and Jeff Shireman of Pittsfield, IL, Rick Frazier and girlfriend Brandon Thompson of Springfield, IL, Darren Shue of Venetia, PA, Mary (Frazier) and David Webel of Pittsfield, IL, Danny (Cheryl) Shue of Fowler, IL, Heather (Shue) Hoyle of Bushnell, IL, Ellen (Shue) and Brad Peterson of Washington, IL, Cara (Shue) and Sean O達rien of Washington, IL, Laci (Shue)and A. J. Oldham of Newport, N.C., Alex Shue and Kyle Smith of Clayton, IL, and Catie Shue of Payson, IL. In addition she is survived by great grandchildren, Conor (Stephanie) O達rien of Evansville, IN, Addy O達rien of Fort Branch, IN, John Phillip and Ethan Shue of Upper St. Clair, PA, Meghan, Tori, and Keith Hoyle of Bushnell, IL, Peyton, Griffin, and Jessie Peterson of Washington, IL, Mazzy and Josie O達rien of Washington, IL, and great-great granddaughter Rayleigh O達rien of Evansville, IN. Survivors also include step-grandchildren, Kathy (Allen) and John Brennen of Wayland, MO, Rich Allen of Pittsfield, IL, Greg (Kim) Allen, of Pittsfield, IL; step great grandchildren, Brooks Allen of Springfield, IL, Briana Allen of Chicago, IL, Erin and Colton Allen of Pittsfield, IL, Christina Peterson of Washington, IL, Megan Scheufele of Columbia, MO, Braxton Scheufele of Fowler, IL, and step great great grandchild, Kayleigh Peterson of Washington, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Shue was preceded in death by her parents, her son David Robert Shue in January 2008, and sisters, Virginia Gay Roberts, Mildred Gay Dutcher, Mary Jo Gay Blacketter, and one brother Hobart Gay, two brothers-in 僕aw, and one sister-in-law.

Ruth enjoyed gardening, being outside, playing the piano and music, and was a marvelous cook. She was known for her wonderful homemade noodles that she made for many Rockport School fundraisers and her great cherry pies. One of her favorite pastimes was whistling while she worked as her grandchildren fondly remember. Her family enjoyed her independence, her ingenuity and perseverance. She will be missed by all those who loved her.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, IL with Becky Clark officiating. Burial will be at the Samuel Taylor Cemetery, Rockport, IL. A visitation will be held one hour prior to services from 10 am until 11 am on Friday, May 20, 2011 at the Niebur Funeral Home, Pittsfield, IL.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Samuel Taylor Cemetery, Rockport, Illinois or the Barry Community Care Activity Fund, Barry, IL. Condolences may be sent to the family at info@nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
