Russell A. Ward, age 88 of Barry, IL and formally of Plainville, IL passed away at his home on Saturday, November 22, 2025. He was born on September 4, 1937, in Kellerville, IL to Albert and Myrtle (Whitaker) Ward. Russell married Marybelle Bainter September 16, 1956, and they had 60 loving years together.
Russell worked at the Cruttenden Orchard in Barry, IL and also was a farmhand for Clyde Morley and Jess Mowens. He then worked for Adams FS driving a fertilizer truck from 1973 until he retired in October 1992. Russell liked to work on old tractors, watching westerns on tv, and enjoyed NASCAR. He was a quiet man who kept to himself and could be a bit stubborn.
Russell is survived by his son, Steve (Shirley) Ward of Plainville, IL; grandchildren, Samuel Ward and Joseph Ward; great grandchildren, Eliza G. Ward, Chazity J. Ward, Joseph M. Ward, Jr., and Brantlee S. Ward; and several nieces and nephews also survive. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marybelle Ward; and parents, Albert and Myrtle Ward.
All services will be private, and burial will be at Stewart Cemetery in Plainville, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Stewart Cemetery. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry is handling the arrangements.
