Ruby “Dolly” E. Meyer, 88, formerly of Hull, Illinois, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023, at the Barry Health Care Center, Barry, Illinois. She was born on September 22, 1934 to Albert and Blanche Hughes Williams. She married Howard R. Meyer on April 14, 1958, at the Methodist Church in Perry, Illinois, by his uncle Harry Shewhart, the minister, of the church..
She grew up in Pike County, Illinois and was proud that she received her GED in 1999, the same year her granddaughter, Charla, graduated from college. Dolly transported children that needed extra education, that was not in offered in Pike County, to Quincy every day for many years. She supported her husband on their family farm and taught compassion and unconditional love to all that knew her. Being a three time cancer survivor, Dolly was able to continue to love life and taught her family and others to have caring hearts. She became a caregiver to many and was an avid advocate for the disabled. Dolly enjoyed ceramics, embroidering, crocheting and was very talented. Known for her carrot cake and cherry pie, Dolly was an avid cook and always had enough to share with her family and friends.
She is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Bob) Freesen of Jacksonville, Illinois and Danita K. Meyer of Barry, Illinois; a granddaughter, Charla (Ted) Stieren of Chatham, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Madison Luckey and Isaac Luckey; sisters, Bonnie Smith of Hull, Illinois and Anna McNett of Texas; and several nieces and nephews survive whom she considered her own.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard R. Meyer; brothers, Elbert Williams and Dale Williams, and sisters, Delores Perrine and Dora Mae Williams.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 at the Barry Funeral Chapel in Barry, Illinois. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be held at the Kinderhook Cemetery in Kinderhook, Illinois, following the service. Memorials may be made to the Barry Healthcare Center, 1313 Pratt Street in Barry, Illinois, to the activity fund/recliner fund. Online condolences may be left at www.nieburfh.com.
