Roy W. Johnson

Roy W. Johnson, a proud Veteran of the United States Army, passed away in the early morning hours of April 27, 2023.

Roy was born September 19, 1941, in Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. He attended military school where he later served in the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division. Roy’s military duties included missile command, and a paratrooper at Fort Bragg. He later took his adventures to the road as an over the road truck driver. Roy completed his working career as a security officer at the Hy-Vee Warehouse located in Chariton IA, where he later retired after 15 years of service. Roy enjoyed sailing, riding horses, fast cars and fast boats. He also enjoyed the beauty of the outdoors and had a great love for his steak and wine.

Roy is survived by his wife, Sherry Johnson; son, Mike (Jinger) Johnson of Pittsfield Illinois; grandchildren, Ashlyn Johnson of Pittsfield Illinois, Michael Johnson of Rapid City South Dakota, Patrick, and Katelyn Johnson of Summer Hill Illinois; six great-grandchildren, Maverick, Nora, Jack, Rylan, Oakley, and Cash, and a brother in-law, Mike (Daynene) Worrell, of Chariton Iowa.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, William S. Johnson and grandmother, Louise Schneideman Henninger, also known as Bomba Louis.

Please join the family for a memorial service with military honors conducted by the United States Army on May 12, 2023, at 6:00PM located at Pierschbacher’s funeral home in Chariton IA. A visitation will follow the service until 8:00PM.
