Rosalyn Phillips Obituary

Rosalyn Fern Phillips, age 96 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Friday, December 13, 2024, at Pittsfield Manor in Pittsfield, IL. She was born December 20, 1927, in Quincy, IL to Glen Otto and Dollie Leigh Doane Hillmann. Rosalyn married Lawrence Wayne Phillips on February 19, 1950, at her parents’ home in rural New Salem and he preceded her in death July 13, 2001.

Rosalyn grew up in rural New Salem and in early years, she was a teacher for a short time at Tenneriffe School north of New Salem. After she and Lawrence wed, she took great pride in being a farm housewife and mother to her children. She was a member of New Salem Methodist Church and served as a choir director, was a member of United Methodist Women, and offered her talents by singing at numerous weddings and funerals. She was a meticulous homemaker who enjoyed keeping a tidy home, canning, and loved to sew; over the years she sewed many prom dresses and wedding dresses. Rosalyn was a wonderful cook and was especially known for her homemade chocolate ice cream, delicious homemade donuts and noodles. She was a loving mother and grandmother, who dearly cherished time spent with her grandchildren.

Rosalyn is survived by daughters, Mary (Dean ‘Tuffy’) White, Tricia Carnes, and Donna (David) James, all of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Jason (Beth) White, Scott (Carrie) Carnes, Carrie (Brentson) Dixon, Matthew James and Marc James; great grandchildren, Ariana White, Audrey White, Henry Carnes, and Philip Carnes; brother-in-law, Lee Phillips; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews also survive.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Phillips; parents, Glen and Dollie Hillmann; sisters, Leah Aileen Gray, Mary Alice Edwards and Barbara Ruth Mize; and several in-laws also preceded her in death.

Services will be held privately. Memorials are suggested to be made to Gray Cemetery or New Salem United Methodist Church.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com. Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield is handling the arrangements.
