Ronald Keith Myers

Ronald Keith Myers, age 87 of Griggsville, IL passed away Saturday, December 20, 2025, at his home.  He was born July 27, 1938, in Jacksonville, IL to Richard J. and Mary Elizabeth Roark Myers. In the summer of 1960, Ronald met Carolyn M. Peterson at the Western Illinois Fair, and they were married on March 2, 1963, in Andover, IL.

Ronald grew up on the family farm outside of Griggsville and lived in the same house for over 77 years, where his grandmother was also raised.  He attended North Flint one room school house for 2 years then attended Griggsville School.  Ronald was a 1956 graduate of Griggsville High School where he played trombone and was active in FFA, President and a Farm Electrification State Winner.  He attended Western Illinois University for 2 years and played in the marching band.  Ronald transferred to the University of Illinois and graduated in 1960 with a degree in Agriculture Education. He loved to learn, took as many classes as he could and received academic honors.  Ronald served his country in the United States Army Reserve for six years until his honorable discharge in 1967.

After college, Ronald began farming, raising hogs, cattle, corn and soybeans.  Ronald loved farming.  He was a steward of the land, receiving Conservation Farmer of the Year in 1990.  He held high standards for animal husbandry and loved implementing the newest technologies.

Ronald enjoyed working with people and was committed and loyal to his community that he felt gave him so much.  He served for over 40 years on the boards of Illinois Electric Coop (Treasurer and Director Gold), Two Rivers FS (President overseeing the merger of Pike and Scott Counties), and Western Farm Business Farm Management Association.  He also served on the board of Griggsville Unit #4 School for over 8 years.  Ronald never missed a meeting.  Ronald was a Past Master of the Griggsville Masonic Lodge and past member of the Pike County Extension Council.  He served on the Western Illinois Fair Board as Swine Superintendent, was a member of the Pike County Farm Bureau and a supporter of the Griggsville Historical Society and Apple Festival, being honored in 2019 as Special Friends of the Apple Festival with his wife, brother and sister-in-law.

Always looking to the future of the community, Ronald was instrumental in starting the Pike County CEO program, promoted Ag in the Classroom where he taught students in the inner Chicago schools and helped organize the Masonic Bike for Books reading program for Griggsville Elementary School.

Ronald was faithful and a lifelong member of the Griggsville United Methodist Church, serving in many ways, including Treasurer and most recently Chairman of the Trustees where he loved overseeing several capital improvement projects.

Ronald’s greatest love was his wife, daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, always teaching and supporting them.  He loved to travel, cook and explore cuisines and was technically savvy.  His quiet leadership, patience and sense of humor will be missed.

Ronald said, “I enjoy activities with my family and friends.  I enjoy being outside and working with livestock.  I enjoy the beauty of the sunrise and the promise of a new day.  I enjoy working with others to make this a better place to live.”  

Ronald is survived by his loving wife of almost 63 years, Carolyn Myers; three daughters, Elizabeth (Vincent) Kurr of San Mateo, CA, Kristine (Wayne) Bingham of Griggsville and Deborah (Joseph) Duszka of Greensboro, NC; nine grandchildren, Jacqueline (Dane) Hasselbring, Cissna Park, Allyson (Skyler) Sailors, Bloomington, Emma Kurr, San Francisco, Daniel Bingham, Cissna Park, Michael Duszka, Greensboro, Benjamin Kurr, Carbondale, Jennifer Bingham, Kansas City, KS, Caroline Duszka and Andrew Duszka both of Greensboro; four great grandchildren, Lane and Whalen Hasselbring, Palmer and Miley Sailors and number five, baby Hasselbring to arrive in January; a brother, Richard R. Myers of Griggsville, sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Rudy) Hoch of Greensboro and Rita Gustafson of West Des Moines; brother-in-law, John (Joanne) Peterson of Moline; and many nieces and nephews.

Ronald was preceded in death by his parents, Richard J. and Mary Elizabeth Myers; brother in infancy; and in-laws Sue Peterson of Andover, Robert Gustafson of West Des Moines and Gladys Ann Myers of Griggsville.

Visitation will be 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, on Sunday, December 28, 2025, with a Masonic service beginning at 4:00 PM, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Griggsville United Methodist Church, with burial at the Griggsville Cemetery following. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Griggsville United Methodist Church supporting the Sunday School program and the church, the Griggsville Beautification Project and the Griggsville Cemetery.
