Ronald Eugene Halsey, age 85, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born September 30, 1936, in Pleasant Hill, IL to Vernon and Anna Francis Benz Halsey. Ron married Evelyn Joan Scott August 21, 1957, in Bowling Green, MO and she survives.
Ron grew up in Nebo and graduated from Nebo High School in May 1954. After graduation he worked at a mill in Alton, worked at Columbiana Feed in Eldred, and spent several years working as maintenance supervisor for Pikeland Unit #10 until his retirement. Throughout the years and continuing after his retirement, Ron’s true calling and passion remained carpentry. He was proud to have not only built his own home but several homes in his neighborhood and community. Ron spent many hours helping others with projects in their homes and also helped remodel his church well into his 70’s. He always had a special affection for Ford trucks, and often enjoyed rides to Nebo to his mom’s old homeplace. Ron loved spending time with his grandkids and often sacrificed many of his Ford trucks to them! He was a loving, giving, hardworking and sometimes ornery man who always put family before himself. Spending time with family was important to him; he enjoyed playing with his great-grandkids and teaching them to play ball and was happy to share nutter butter cookies, ice cream treats from Dari Ripple or a fried bologna sandwich, which is why they lovingly called him ‘Pa Bologna’. He loved music and tried his hand at playing guitar and enjoyed singing with his family at gatherings. Ron will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Ron is survived by daughter, Cindy Sue Spicer of High Ridge, MO; eight grandchildren, Michael Lipcamon, Janet Cunningham, Summer (Matthew) Hancock, Brendon (Kelly) DeJaynes, Joshua (Shyann Kemry) DeJaynes, Christine (Josh) Kingman, Charity (Alec) Rhea, and Kylie DeJaynes; ten great-grandchildren, Breanna (Simon Taylor) Cunningham, Autumn Rogers, Abigail Rogers, Ronnie Molenar, Henry DeJaynes, Oliver DeJaynes, Gracelynn Kingman, Rory DeJaynes, Adelynn Kingman, and Theo DeJaynes; two sons-in-law, Carl Lipcamon and Clayton Spicer; brothers, Keith (Diane) Halsey and Donnie (Francis) Halsey; and sister, Lois Ann (George) Ruble.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Anna Halsey; daughter, Patricia Lipcamon; grandson, Clinton Lee Lipcamon; and brother, Earl Halsey.
