Ronald W. Camerer, age 81, of New Canton, IL passed away on Friday October 3, 2025, at the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, IL. He was born on October 9, 1943, in White Hall, IL to Robert G. and Mary Eileen (Wooldridge) Camerer. Ron married Diane (Gates) on August 8, 1965, in New Canton, IL and she survives.
Ron graduated from West Pike High School in 1961 and went on to attend Hannibal LaGrange College with an associate degree in English. Ron served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, working on a swift boat off the southern coast of Vietnam. He served from 1965 to 1967 before he was honorably discharged and then served several years in the Reserves. Ron first worked at McDonnell Douglas, later working for Dundee/Holcim Cement Company in Clarksville, MO. He wore many hats over the years, starting as a laborer, moving on to maintenance, electrician, and finally was a plant operator retiring after 37 years. Ron enjoyed hunting squirrel and rabbit, watching westerns on television and going to the movies in the theatre. Ron and Diane enjoyed travelling, always driving north, south or west. His greatest enjoyment was his grandchildren who always brought a smile to his face. Ron was quiet and compassionate, a good provider, and a loving husband, father and grandpa. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Ron is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Diane Camerer of New Canton, IL; son Chad R. (Tonya) Camerer of Quincy, IL; grandchildren, Ryan Camerer of Quincy, IL and Francis (Joe) White of Lynchburg, VA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Mary Camerer.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, October 17, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM. Interment will be held privately at Shearer Cemetery in New Canton, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Shearer Cemetery or the White Hall VFW.
