Roger L. Hatcher

Roger L. Hatcher, age 89, of Pearl, IL passed away Monday, August 19, 2024. He was born March 17, 1935, in Detroit, IL to Wayne and Pearl Rader Hatcher. Roger married Julia Holloway November 28, 1951, in Louisiana, MO and she survives.

Roger graduated from Pearl High School in 1953 and in his younger years he played for the St. Louis Cardinals minor league team in Georgia. He served his community as Mayor for two terms, was President of the Pearl Fire Department and was a past Road Commissioner for Pearl Township. Roger and Julia enjoyed bowling in Pittsfield a few nights each week with local leagues, he was a licensed pilot, and a beloved bus driver remembered by many area students. Roger was an avid outdoorsman who loved to fish, hunt and play golf. He was a dedicated family man and dear friend who will be dearly missed by all those who knew him.

Roger is survived by his wife of 72 years, Julia Hatcher of Pearl, IL; son, Gregory L. (Agnes) Hatcher of Kingdom City, MO; grandchildren, Amy (Tom Crum) Groves, Sara (John) McDaniel, Andy (Katie) Wycislo, Julia (John Hensley) Wycislo and Abby (Josh) Biggers; great grandchildren, Bobby Harris, Kinser Groves, Mackenzie McDaniel, Kahne Groves, Ryan Harris, Chase McDaniel, Emory Harris, Lacey Biggers, Wiley Biggers and Charlotte Wycislo; and son-in-law Gary Wycislo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Pearl Hatcher; daughter, Lou Ann Wycislo; and siblings, Anna Gwen DeLong, Margie Hatcher and Clifford Hatcher.

Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM, Friday, August 23, 2024, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Interment will follow the service at Green Pond Cemetery in Pearl, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Green Pond Cemetery or Pearl Fire Department.
