Roger Dean Gallaher, 68, of Barry IL, passed away on July 13, 2025 in Quincy, IL. He was born on January 15, 1957, in Hannibal, MO, to Leorn and Letha (Dunham) Gallaher. Roger married Janet Poyser on February 18, 1977, at First Baptist Church in Barry, IL, and she survives.
Roger graduated from Barry High School and, following in his dad’s footsteps, began working as a heavy equipment operator with the Operating Engineers Local #965. He worked for Central Stone in Barry, IL for several years before returning to the union, where he remained until retiring in 2019 after 25 years of service.
Roger took pride in working hard and doing things the right way, especially when it came to his yard. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting and fishing, and spending time on the Mississippi River. He loved spending time in his shop working with his hands and had been working on restoring a 1953 Chevrolet pickup truck. Most of all, Roger loved his family, and he will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janet Gallaher; his son, Douglas Gallaher, and Douglas’s partner, Hana Lim; brother-in-law, Gary (Kathy) Poyser; nephews, Jason Poyser and Joseph Poyser; and niece, Brianna Poyser Clavel.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leorn and Letha Gallaher; his brother, Steve Gallaher; his infant sister, Sheila Gallaher; and his in-laws, James and Lois Poyser.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Niebur Funeral Chapel in Barry, IL, with visitation on Saturday, July 19, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Interment to follow service at Park Lawn Cemetery in Barry, IL.
