Roberta Lynn Ballinger Obituary

On Sunday, February 15, 2026, Roberta Lynn Ballinger, 75, of New Salem entered the gates of Heaven.

Born on July 5, 1950, she was the oldest child of Robert and Carolyn Baker. She was raised in New Salem and graduated from Pittsfield High School in 1968. She married the love of her life, David Ballinger, on September 2, 1977. Together they raised five children. She was her children’s biggest supporter. Her legacy grew to include fifteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and this was where she found her greatest joy. She enjoyed attending their activities and was always ready to share a story about them.

Throughout her life, she taught her family the value of hard work and sacrifice. She managed P. N. Hirsch and Dollar General and then spent 25 years doing taxes at H&R Block before she retired. Many of her tax clients became like family to her, and she looked forward to seeing them every year.

In her free time, Lynn enjoyed hosting family meals, her dogs and cats, working in her yard (usually barefoot), getting her hair and nails done, hanging her laundry on the line, watching NASCAR races and soap operas on TV, and camping. Most importantly, Lynn loved Jesus. She was an avid Bible reader and a member of the New Salem Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband David Ballinger; mother Carolyn Baker; children Chris (Allen) Horton, Michael Ballinger, Terry (Ronda Cameron) Ballinger, Alisha Ballinger, and Daniel (McKenzie) Ballinger; grandchildren Billie (Riley) McDorman,  Sierra (Travis Woolridge) Ballinger, Marco Ballinger, Corbin Ballinger, Dakota, Ryan, William, Thomas, Leroy, and Daniel Henry, Jacob and Macie Ballinger, Cassidy Weyant, and Robert Lemerande; great-grandchildren Aria Henry and  Braxton and Brody Wells; siblings Chuck (Rhonda) Baker and Mary Jane (Thom) Davis; sister-in-law Cathy Ballinger; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Baker; mother and father-in-law, Harry and Ruby Ballinger; granddaughter, Rayette Rucker, and nieces Margaret Lynn and Amanda Jane Baker.
