Robert 'Bob' V. Rhodes

Robert V. Rhodes, age 81 of Pearl, IL passed away on Saturday June 20, 2026, at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, IL. He was born on May 6, 1945, in Calhoun County, IL to Verdie and Lula Gourley Rhodes. He married Mary Ann Turnbaugh June 28, 1980, and she preceded him in death June 14, 2013. 

Bob grew up in Pearl, IL and attended Pearl schools. As a teenager he worked at the Donohoo Filling Station. When he turned 18, Bob entered the workforce as an ironworker in Springfield, IL and proudly belonged to the Iron Workers Union Local #46, retiring after 36 years of service.  Before retiring his family owned and operated the Rhodes Café in Milton for a few years. After permanently retiring, he always enjoyed a good day at ‘The Boat’. Over the years Bob enjoyed traveling with his family, taking several trips out west. He was an avid game show network follower, and always loved the time he spent with his family. Bob had a sense of humor, was a bit stubborn and onery, but will be remembered as a great father and grandfather that liked his routine and was set in his ways. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Bob is survived by his sons, Craig Rhodes of Riverton, IL, Chris Rhodes of Springfield, IL and Brad (Emily) Rhodes of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Ariel Rhodes, Mel Rhodes, Sandra Rhodes, Addie Rhodes and Emma Rhodes; and sister-in-law, Valerie Watkins. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Verdie and Lula Rhodes; wife, Mary Ann Rhodes; brothers, Wayne Rhodes and Earl ‘Dude’ Rhodes; sister Vivian Rhodes; and stepdaughter, Holly Shanks.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday June 24, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service at Green Pond Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pearl Christian Church or to the family c/o Niebur Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
