Robert L. Adams

Robert L. Adams, age 84, of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Eastside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center with his wife by his side. He was born November 23, 1937 in Moweaqua, IL to Orville and Virginia Lockart Adams. Robert married Ruth Lynge September 19, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Urbana, IL and she survives.

He graduated from Moweaqua High School in 1957 and went on to attend college at Illinois State University earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture and Master’s Degree in School Administration. Bob taught Jr. High in Sunnyland, IL and then taught Bicycle Safety School in Peoria. He later continued his teaching career at Baylis School, where he was also principal from 1970 – 1979. When the school closed, he moved to the Perry School District as Superintendent until his retirement in 1993. Bob was a faithful and loyal member of Pittsfield United Methodist Church, also serving on the board. He also served as Pittsfield Township Clerk for eight years and was president of Pike County Heart Association. Bob was a past board member of Old Orchard Country Club, and was also member of Pittsfield Masonic Lodge # 790 A.F. & A. M. and Pike County Shrine Club. Bob loved to fish and play golf and enjoyed camping at Lake Pittsfield, which Bob and Ruth fondly called their second home and traveling with friends, especially The Baughman’s. He also enjoyed attending horse races with friends and was known to place a friendly bet. Bob was also an avid gardener who took great pride in his rose bushes. He dearly loved spending time with his grandson, Lucas and attending as many of his activities as possible. Bob will be deeply missed by friends and family alike.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Ruth Adams of Pittsfield, IL; sons, Steven (Jamie) Adams of Lewistown, IL and Eric (Lori) Adams of Wetumpka, AL; daughter, Linda Adams of Waukee, IA; grandson, Lucas Adams; sister, Wanda Lee (Bob) Doddo; sister-in-law, Linda (Dean) Austin; nephew, Jim Poe; and nieces, Debbie (Michael) Geraci and Sarah (Paul) Harris.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Virginia Adams; in-laws, Ray and Ruth Lynge; nephew, Kenneth Poe; and niece, Ellen Maraia.

Funeral service will be held Monday, July 25, 2022, at 6:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL. Masonic Services will be held at 3:30 PM with visitation held prior to the service from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to be made to Pittsfield United Methodist Church or Shriners Hospital. Online condolences may be left to the family at www.nieburfh.com.
