Richard 'Sam' Martin Obituary

Richard Lee ‘Sam’ Martin, age 72 passed away on January 27, 2025, in Quincy IL. He was born on August 3, 1952.

He attended Pittsfield High School in Pittsfield IL. He was a Union Carpenter for 35 years before his retirement. Sam was a very outgoing person who knew no strangers. His outgoing personality led him to become a member of several clubs such as a long-time member and past board officer of South Side Boat Club. He was also an active member and avid trap shooter at North Side Boat Club and Quincy Gun Club. Sam enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle with his wife Rennie and many friends. He enjoyed playing darts and was a top player in pool leagues all over town for many years. Sam was a proud family man who took pride in watching his grandchildren play sports and cheering on his grandson that followed in his footsteps in duck hunting and become a world champion duck caller.

Sam is survived by his wife, Rennie Martin, two biological sisters, Debbie (Gary) Hagerbaumer and Diane Meyer;  two older brothers, Fred Martin of Quincy IL and Carl Martin of Nebo IL; and two sisters, Lillian Hannel of Pittsfield, IL and Carolyn Summers of Quincy, IL; two sons, Chad (Elaina) Martin of Paducah KY and Jared (Kim) Martin of Metropolis IL; three daughters, Tonya Williams of Canton IL, Nicole Rossmiller of Quincy, IL and Alexis (Trevor) Birdsell of Jacksonville IL; one stepdaughter, Lucinda Kugler of Quincy IL; eighteen grandchildren; Chandler (Krista) Martin, Evan Martin, Dylan Martin, Kristopher Williams, Kamryn Williams, Karalyna Williams, Anna Martin, Robbie Martin, Sierra (Brian) Trone, Christian Hamann, Regan Rossmiller, Rylan Rossmiller, Bailey Bevins, Jagger Hammerquist, Jaxxon Hammerquist and three additional grandsons; four great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin and Nanamae Martin; one brother, Jerome Martin; two sisters, Elizabeth Smith and Sharonn Campbell; and stepson, Elijah Fisher.

Cremation rights have been accorded, and there will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 1, 2025, with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Lummis Funeral Home in Pleasant Hill, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held at the South Side Boat Club, 640 South Front Street, Quincy, IL on Sunday March 2, 2025, starting at 1:00 PM. All are welcome to attend.
