Richard Lee Henderson, age 95, of Plainville, IL, passed away at home on Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was born in Quincy, IL on December 18, 1929 to Richard Jasper and Bertha (Gross) Henderson. He married Glenna Bowen on March 23, 1949 at the Central Baptist Church in Quincy, IL, and she survives.
Richard served in the U.S. Navy Reserves from the age of 18 until he was honorably discharged in 1951. He worked as an engineer for Gardner Denver Industrial Machinery Division for over 40 years before retiring. After his retirement, he owned and operated the Ole Time Clock Shop in Quincy, IL for over 30 years. He also served as Plainville Village clerk for 50 years.
He was a faithful Christian, attending the First Baptist Church in Plainville, IL where he served as a trustee, drafted plans for the fellowship hall, and was the pianist for over 70 years. He was a piano prodigy, having never taken formal training. Richard enjoyed boating on the river- especially taking a picnic out Sundays after church, he was an avid reader, enjoyed camping and biking with his family, and was a Jack-of-all trades, able to repair anything brought to him. Richard loved and grew red rose bushes. He was “Google” before Google was invented. He was known as a man of God, a gentleman, being generous, and loved his family-his grandkids being the “icing on his cake”.
He is survived by his loving wife of 76 years, Glenna Henderson of Plainville, IL; daughters, Jana Call of Kinderhook, IL, and Joy (Steven) Barker of Pittsfield, IL; grandchildren, Carissa (Daniel) Wedding, Kimberly (Kevin) Corzatt, Misty (Joel) Bagley, Kermit (Nikki) Barker, and Casey (Cole) Bradburn; great grandchildren, Cody Wedding, Kylee Wedding, Kaitlyn (Clint) Dedert, Lexus (Zach) Starr, Kaiden Corzatt, Victoria Bagley, Cillian Bradburn, Hadley Barker, Collin Bradburn, Eliott Barker, and Virginia Bagley; great-great grandchildren, Grayson Goeppner, Chloe Dedert, Ryder Dedert, and Millyr Starr; a special daughter in-law, Diana Harpole; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by; his parents, Richard Jasper Henderson and Bertha Henderson Lock; and a son, Guy Richard Henderson; and son in-law, Charles H. Call.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Baptist Church in Plainville, IL on Sunday, December 14, 2025 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will be held prior from 1:00 -2:00 pm, at the church. Richard’s favorite donuts will be served following the celebration. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Plainville, IL or QMG Cancer Center, Quincy, IL.
