Richard Clendenny Obituary

Richard Thomas Clendenny, age 67 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at his home with his loving wife by his side. He was born June 30, 1954, in Carrollton, IL to Floyd Richard and Betty Goodall Clendenny. Richard married Ina Pearl Whitley May 18, 1973, in Jerseyville, IL and she survives.

Rick grew up in the Kampsville, IL area and was a down to earth country boy. He always loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting deer, rabbit and squirrel. Rick was also a great hunter of mushrooms, many thought he could just smell ‘em! After high school, he joined the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in April 1973 earning a National Defense Service Medal. He spent time driving a delivery truck for Nelson’s Fish Market in Pearl and had other delivery jobs including driving for Pike County Lumber for over 20 years. Rick was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Pittsfield; he was a man of strong faith and went on a mission trip to Africa where he gave a sermon on the importance of marriage. Rick loved gardening and often fought a losing battle with the local squirrel population for his tomatoes; he also liked reading westerns and loved his Chevy Silverado pickup. He was an ornery and fun-loving man with a good sense of humor who loved to crack jokes and loved his family fiercely and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Rick is survived by his wife of 49 years, Ina Clendenny; daughter, Sarah Marie Clendenny of San Antonio, TX; goddaughter, Krista Gauges of Alsey, IL; mother, Betty Powell; brother, George (Debbie) Clendenny of Brownsburg, IN; sisters, Ruby (Gary) Parke and Rosemary Clendenny both of Pearl, IL; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Jeff) Booth of Jerseyville, IL, Helen Sexton of Moro, IL, Jane (Terry) Piper of Greenfield, IL, Becky (Chuck) McBride of Jerseyville, IL; brothers-in-law, Gary (Linda) Whitley of Jerseyville, IL, Paul (Kathy) Whitley of MI and Bill (Gail) Whitley of Alton, IL; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father, Floyd Richard Clendenny; sisters, Ruth Guthrie and Patsy Noble; brother, Charles Clendenny; and brother-in-law, Ron Whitley.
