Richard Mark Barton, age 70 of Pittsfield, IL passed away Saturday, May 3, 2025, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield, IL. He was born July 1, 1954, in Pittsfield, IL to Richard Dale and Cherie Joan Henry Barton.
Rick was a 1972 graduate of Pittsfield High School. He began his real estate career in Jacksonville in 1977 and established Barton & Associates Real Estate in Pittsfield in 1987. Over the years, he held various real estate licenses including Illinois Managing Broker’s license, Illinois Licensed Real Estate Appraiser, Illinois Real Estate Instructor, and Illinois Real Estate Continuing Education Instructor. Rick served his community on the Pittsfield City Council in the mid 80’s and in his spare time he could often be found fishing with Jack Millan, Roger Burbridge, and Berry Booth. In earlier years, Rick enjoyed hunting, woodworking, cooking, and gardening and would share his bounty with friends and family. He also relished time spent with his brother and friends playing in their band, Nea-Plese Swift. Rick was fondly called ‘Uncle Pickle’ by his nieces and nephews. He always loved children and held a special spot in his heart for his loving granddaughter, Amelia who literally melted his heart every time he saw her.
Rick is survived by his daughter, Kelsey (Jeremy) Foster of Maywood, MO; granddaughter, Amelia Penn; brothers, Russ (Jamie) Barton and Dan (Carol) Barton; sisters, Becky (Kevin) Lowe and Chris (Garry) Browning; numerous nieces and nephews; and close friends, Robin Callihan, Roger Burbridge, and Brent Gaffney also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Cherie Barton; and brother, Tommy Barton.
Cremation rites have been accorded, and Celebration of Life will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, May 17, 2025, at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with visitation held prior to the service from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM. Interment will follow the service at Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to Independence Christian Church.
