Rhonda Lee Garrett, age 69, of Nauvoo, IL passed away on Saturday September 14, 2024, at the Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. She was born on October 22, 1954, in Browning, IL to Clarence and Frances ‘Bonnie’ Fitzgerald Busby. Rhonda married David Milton Garrett on April 10, 1973, and he preceded her in death on August 21, 2020.
Rhonda grew up in Rushville, IL before her family moved to Griggsville, IL. At 18 she married Milton and began her working at Tate Cheese as a supervisor, retiring after 20 years of service. Her sister Brenda was her best friend, and they were a Thelma and Louise. Rhonda loved trail rides, always riding her faithful mule Jack, which she had for 32 years. She also loved to travel, quilt and enjoyed the old country music. She volunteered for many organizations over the years including the Spay and Neuter Clinic when she was living in New Mexico. Rhonda belonged to the Red Hat Society and a quilting club. She loved being around people and once she met you, you were a friend for life. She was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Rhonda is survived by her sister Brenda (Calvin) Bollin of Nauvoo, IL; brother, Jim (Sharon) Busby of Beardstown, IL; son, Mark (Judith) Garrett; two grandchildren, Princess Garrett and Francine Garrett; nieces and nephews, Betty Fitzjarrald, Lisa Engberg, Donnie Busby and Jamie Busby and Mary Margaret ‘Smurfy’ Collins; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; two stepchildren and many wonderful longtime friends that she considered family. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 47 years, Milton.
Services will be held on Wednesday September 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Niebur Funeral Home in Pittsfield, IL with a visitation from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM prior to the service. Interment will follow the service at Wilson Cemetery in Perry, IL. Memorials are suggested to be made to the Pike County Animal Shelter.
